Capitol HS

I'm schlepping back and forth from Oakland to Sacramento a lot this week. We're doing a bunch of visits for a language access/parental involvement in education bill we are sponsoring. I'm new to all this, but I'm learning that "legislative advocacy" in the Capitol building can be a lot like going door-knocking in a high school. I spent time with some staffers who are supportive and engaged, but the bulk of the day was spent going door to door and making a 3 minute pitch and ask. Each office has its own clique/after-school club vibe--some are like chess club and others lean towards animal house. And you're a cool kid if you know the captain of the football team. The whole process highlights my social ineptitude. I'm always genuinely excited to run into the 5 people I know there. ok, I exaggerate...I only know 3 people.
Anyway, given that I'm the new student/tranfer, I appreciate my current and former co-workers sheparding me to my next class, saving me a seat in the cafeteria, and playing with me during recess.
Just one more trip this week...
