Lost in space
The Paid Family Leave Act Expert Monkey was doing a workshop in LA this weekend. So I tagged along for the trip to LA. We braved the Friday evening communter mobs schlepping on Southwest Airlines from the Bay to LA. I tried to remain in good spirits by declaring it an evening of Triangle Airport Foods--pizza and doritos. I was needing a weekend away from work and more work. Thanks to the Rini, Christina and Wallabee's warm hospitality, I was able to relax for the first time in weeks. I made up for my Triangle Food dinner by eating about 40 guava pastries that Christina spent 2 hrs procuring. Al-b, I was thinking of you. We then proceeded to eat a full meal every 2 hours for the next 8 hrs or so.
Highlights of the weekend include, 3.5 hours of bangin' norebang--yes, I rhyme; playing Super Steroid Scrabble--double the tiles and the dream of the quadruple word score. Elaine sez, "Don't be greedy!" I have to agree.
Upon returning to the Bay, we went to meet William August Jasper, the newest addition to Chris and Amy's family. Unlike most Lunamania demographic reports, this is actually a human baby as opposed to a cat. Peoples, new babies are very frog-like. Call me sheltered. Accuse me of ignorance re: the miracle of life. I've never seen such a newly hatched baby. Hellllloooo! They kinda have scales and are all deflated looking. I got to hold him and all I have to say is...whoa. It's really an incredible feeling to hold something so damn tiny. I'm just happy Will came out healthy and Amy's feeling all good. Cheers peeps.
And of course Lunamania cannot be more relieved that Elaine--currently resident of Montauk, NY, finally has a cell phone battery life longer than .5 seconds. It's tough being on wrong coasts, but no cellie contact is completely unacceptable.
As I ramble, my one low-point is that my backpack is lost somewhere in Burbank Airport. I realized this morning that I forgot it in the screening process. I've called the airport multiple times today, but no one is returning my calls. Seeing as it's "unattended baggage" they probably blew it up. *sigh* It has my thermos and more importantly my new PDA.
